HATH storm The Ritz Club Burnham-on-Sea, Thursday 19th February 2009

I had a great time, yeah really good, I wanted to be there. It was the best gig we have done, the first gig for Cathy since the disappearance of Dr.Sells.

The sound check went really well, Graham engineering us a good sound, every word crisp and loud and once I had adjusted the mic so everyone could see my face! We kicked into ‘People’ as an opening gambit sound checker. [There were people still setting up the space, so we had to first impression them] They seemed surprised that we wanted to sound check, but I know it’s the right thing to do.

To make sure the DX7 keyboard [that Graham was drooling over] was in the mix we did ‘Circus’ – I totally f* the words and left the stage grumbling to myself, worried I was now going to self destruct the entire evening.

Waiting, waiting, waiting, how much do I hate waiting?

The finger buffet was served and eaten, Tom stuffed his face! I could only manage a bread roll, some cheese and a dozen oysters! The beer at the Ritz is good tho, at the end of the night I had ½ an hour to drink 3 pints – which I did satisfactorily. Thanks to Harry from the best punk band in Highbridge for that!

After the break and the other musicians playing some really good varied styles of music, we were on. At last!

Tom got behind the DX7 and started playing the opening funereal chords to ‘Grandma’ - off stage I faltered looked at Cathy and I said ‘Right I'm off!’ Just then Harry appeared.

The lights were still on in the house so I was able to point and eyeball everyone as I yelled ‘burst!’

The lights went out in the house as Cathy walked on to whoops and cheers! And we fired up ‘If you were mine’ the rest of the set played out well, no major f* ups! Other than new strings on the ukulele slipping out of tune and I felt compelled to tune up before going on.

We were received well with comments like ‘Very Unique’ and ‘Original, I liked it’ and ‘I like the songs you have written, keep writing more!’ We sold 5 Headway CD’s. [Note to self: we must record own CD] collected email addresses and gave out a few button badges. Oh and we got paid, which we will put towards recording…
